Several industry players have established bioanalytical facilities offering bioassay service for cell and gene therapies across the world. During our research, we came across North America and Europe, which emerged as the key hub for establishing these facilities.
Amongst the total players offering bioassay services for cell and gene therapies, most of the players engaged in this domain were established before 1995. Of these, nine are headquartered in North America, while eight are based in Europe. Further, the industry witnessed the establishment of nine players, post 2010. Of these, five are based in North America, three in Europe and one in the Asia-Pacific region. In addition to this, all of the bioassay service providers (100%) are offering pre-developed assay. This is followed by 89% players that offer customized cell therapy assay and gene therapy assay. Primarily driven by the need for technical and operational expertise, which are available with contract service providers, the cell and gene therapy bioassay services market is poised to witness substantial growth in the coming years.
Majority of the service providers (56%) have established their facilities in North America; within this region, most of the facilities are located in US (97%), followed by Canada (3%). Further, close to 40% players have their manufacturing facilities in Europe, while the remaining have established their facilities in Asia-Pacific and rest of the world (~10%). It is worth highlighting that, in Asia-Pacific, majority of the service providers have established their facilities in China (75%), followed by Singapore (25%).

Further, as can be observed from the figure, majority (66%) of the players offers type 1 assay for both cell as well as gene therapies, followed by type 2 assay which is offered by close to 60% bioassay service providers. Besides this, ~50% service providers offer type 1 assay in in vitro medium, whereas only 30% players provide type 1 assay in in vivo medium. On the other hand, type 2 assay is offered by over 40% of the service providers in in vitro medium and over 25% players provide type 2 assay in in vivo medium. Additionally, the other application area includes vaccines, monoclonal antibodies, viral vectors and immuno-oncology.
