To be on a positive side, cramps can never be the reason for any kind of effect on fertility, however, what caused those cramps might.
Causes of Period Cramps
Compounds like prostaglandins are the reason for the occurrence of period cramps. These compounds occur naturally and chemically and can be located in various tissue inside one’s body. These compounds are vital as they are responsible for inflammation regulation, growth of cells and maintaining the temperature of your body. They also help in smooth muscle transition.
Prostaglandins are vital for uterus during mensuration. Throughout this time, the muscles of the uterus contract a bit for uterus to flow down the lining during menstruation. If the compound of prostaglandins is higher than normal, it can cause much more intense contractions which will eventually cause cramps. When this happens, the oxygen source for the muscles in the cramp prone area is cut off. This decline in oxygen leads to muscle cramps during periods.
The ratio of this happening is much more in teens than adults as younger bodies tend to have a higher number of prostaglandins. The levels of prostaglandins decrease with age and hence those cramps are relatively easy to handle than before. This also decreases after a childbirth.
Period cramps medically should not be the reason for any problem infertility. Also known as dysmenorrhea as per medical science, a normal cause comes under primary dysmenorrhea. If it happens abnormally, for instance, due to disease, pregnancy-related issues can show signs due to this secondary dysmenorrhea.
Several factors can cause much more intense cramps along with the disease that might affect the fertility of a person. Some of these causes are:
Endometriosis:
Endometriosis is responsible for infertility among women due to tissue that is responsible for the lining of the uterus not being in the right place. This tissue is on the outer region of the uterus and is relevantly high among women. This develops over years in silence and is a major cause of infertility.
Fibroids:
Fibroids are a big chunk of tissue that develops inside the uterus over the smooth muscle. They seem like a cancer but usually, it’s not. Fibroids also develop silently and can cause infertility in many women.
Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID)
If there is some sort of infection in a Pelvic or Reproductive organ of a woman, it can form a scar tissue that causes Pelvic Inflammatory Disease. This scar tissue looks like a spider woven web between some important parts like fallopian tubes, ovaries, and the uterus. This usually blocks the fallopian tubes causing infertility.
Adenomyosis:
Adenomyosis occurrence is something similar to endometrium except for the fact that it grows within the uterus muscles causing heavy periods. It is in theory weather it causes any problem such as infertility but still, it does some heavy damage physically.
