Portuguese Permanent Residence Visa UK

At the conclusion of the 5th full year of eligibility of being a permanent resident of Portugal, the eligible person is eligible to apply for Portugal Permanent Residence. An application for Portugal permanent residence card is no longer subject to any minimum stay time requirements. It can be cancelled instantly if the holder is not away from Portugal for at least 2 consecutive years. The applicant need not have a criminal record and can also apply without furnishing a fee. Portugal Permanent Residence Card can be valid for three decades from the date of issue or the applicant can renew it, in this case the time period starts from the current year and not from the one preceding it.

Portugal permanent residency permits are issued in the form of identity cards that need to be presented at the Portuguese consulate abroad or at the airport near the applicant’s point of entry. There is no fee for this but there are mandatory customs duties. The validity period of validity is usually five years starting from the date of issue. This means the period from the date of issue of passport is the most important starting point and these requirements normally apply only for individuals who obtained their Portuguese nationality by birth and have lived in Portugal for at least five years.

It is possible for individuals to get a Portugal permanent residency card even when they do not have a nationality from Switzerland. The applicant has to fulfill the following conditions for getting a permanent residency card: the individual must be at least eighteen years of age; he/she must have a regular income; he/she should be a citizen of Switzerland or a country of Europe that is close to Switzerland such as Austria, Finland, Liechtenstein or Germany. If an individual does not meet the above-mentioned conditions, his application for a Portugal permanent residency card will be rejected. Individuals who have lived in Switzerland for more than three years also cannot apply for a permanent residency card.

When applying for a Portugal golden visa residency, you will require three documents. These documents are proof of identity, your social security number or your Swiss passport and the documents required for applying for a Portugal permanent residency. You can obtain the proof of identity by providing three of the following documents: a valid passport; a birth certificate; or a birth registration confirmation. These documents are sufficient for processing your application for the golden visa residency.

A proof of citizenship is required for obtaining a Portugal permanent residency, provided that the citizen can demonstrate that he/she possesses the nationality that is referred to in Article 7 paras. a and b of the Swiss Immigration Law. Immigrants who can no longer provide proof of citizenship after five years from the time of their application are eligible for obtaining a Portuguese citizenship. Those individuals who do not posses a nationality may still apply for acquisition of citizenship after five years but, must first show that they are inhabitants of Switzerland as per the provisions of Article 7 para. b.

A final proof of citizenship is a passport that has been issued by the Federal Swiss Immigration Office after the applicant has obtained five years of residence in Portugal. Such documents are important as proof of identity and also for obtaining a Portugal permanent residency. These documents are also issued if the applicant requires an extension to his residency. In such case, the original document i.e. the passport must be renewed with additional period of validity, at the expiry date mentioned on the passport.
