We’ll be introducing’spot-drop zones as our primary zone coverage idea within our defensive playbooks and AI. This means that by default, all zones we cover in our plays will operate strictly based on spot-drop zone logic, and covering a specific portion of the field, instead of a mix of both spot-drops and match coverages like we had last year. The reason for this change was to make play-art in the play-call screen the primary source of truth for players in order to better predict the reaction of their zones during play.

Drift Logic is all new protection behavior that is designed to Deep Zone defenders. We’ve captured an entire new collection of defensive back specific movement animations and along with AI support, the defenders in Madden NFL 23 can back-pedal, flip their hips, strafe and look back at the ball faster in a more athletic way, and more realistically. Not only will defensive backs appear professional however, these new motion animations can also take them to where they’d like to go with greater efficiency that will help make the zone coverage passing windows even more narrow.
