Optimists should be pleased to know that being happy may actually be good for your overall health. Sharecare states that happy people have younger hearts, younger arteries, and a younger real age. Furthermore, happy people have been found to have stronger immune systems, recover more quickly from surgery, cope better with pain, have lower blood pressure, and have longer life expectancy than people who are unhappy. ETH Life reported on Oct. 14, 2013, “Happiness lowers blood pressure.”
Researchers have found a synthetic gene module which is controlled by the happiness hormone dopamine produces an agent that lowers blood pressure. Dopamine is an endogenous hormone which triggers feelings of happiness. When it is released dopamine helps us remember states of happiness and keeps us wanting to achieve it again.
Scientists have linked a dopamine sensor module to the production of the antihypertensive agent ANP and have implanted the customised cells in the abdomens of hypertensive male mice. It was observed contact with a female mouse triggered such intense feelings of happiness in the males that the dopamine-induced ANP production corrected hypertension and the blood pressure even reached a normal level. Although the dopamine hypertension model is only a prototype, it worked in a mouse model that simulates a human disease.

Psychiatrists often prescribe neuroleptics for people based in their subjective whims. Neuroleptics cause dopamine blockade and therefore have the real potential to make you very unhappy while also adversely effecting your neurological system and other vital body systems. So, clearly if you are interested in really good overall health in body and mind, it’s a wise idea to try to avoid psychiatrists.
